About the Author
William Hustrulid has more than 40 years of experience in mining engineering. He has worked all over the world as a Professor of Mining Engineering, in R&D positions and as a consultant. He currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus at the University of Utah and manages Hustrulid Mining Services in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Mark Kuchta has almost 20 years of experience in mining engineering, research and teaching and has worked in the United States and Sweden. At present, he is an Associate Professor of Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.

A very useful book

That what I was looking for for years. It is a very comprehensive introduction to mine planning and organization which gives basics about important tasks as geostatistical analysis applied to orebody characterization, block modeling, pit planning and organization, costs analysis and economical management. I found really useful in particular the enclosed user-friendly software which allows to practice with book contents in a practical environment and is completed by the rich database full of data from real situations. A really useful tool for practicing before coping with more complex (and expensive) mining software programmes.

This review of the first edition is a must have for anyone who is related with open pit mine planning. It is also a great book for mining engineering students. The concepts are clearly presented, and very well organized. The complete process of mine planning from the early stages to the production scheduling is described.

Mine Planning Hustrulid

The book goes into some very pertinent issues regarding open pit planning. This is a must book for a general understanding and some in depth understanding of how to go about the design of an open pit and it's issues. Of course all pit are different in their own way with their own individual issues, but this is a must for anyone working in the field.
