About the Author
Jack David Eller teaches Anthropology at the Metropolitan State College of Denver. His previous publications include Violence and Culture: An Interdisciplinary and Cross-Cultural Approach (2005) and Culture and the Real World: Core Concepts of Cultural Anthropology Applied to Contemporary World Issues (2006).

Brilliant textbook

I'm to teach an anthro of religion next year, and have been examining a good many textbooks. This one's my absolute favorite. The author is lucid (able to successfully explain V.W. Turner's approach inside a single paragraph), well-read, clear and tightly organized, yet chatty too.
Most introductory chapters are dreadful, this one's delightful. Plus the last few chapters -- on agnosticism, fundamentalism, violence, and new religious movements -- are unequaled elsewhere. Only later do you realize that there aren't any drawings or photos. Check it out.
