About the Author

Gráinne Conole is Professor of Educational Innovation in Post-Compulsory Education at the University of Southampton. She was previously the Director of the Institute for Learning and Research Technology at the University of Bristol. Currently funded projects include the HEFCE-funded E-Learning Research Centre, the JISC/NSF funded DialogPlus digital libraries project and the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods. She is also editor of the Association of Learning Technologies journal, ALT-J.

Martin Oliver is senior lecturer at the Institute of Education. Prior to this he was a lecturer in Teaching and Learning (Communication and Information Technologies) at University College London.

A book one can work with over time

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Divided into two parts--macro and micro dimensions--the editors Gráinne Conole and Martin Oliver have brought together a large collection of very valuable articles by a large list of expert contributors. A high signal strength is maintained throughout this well-referenced and well-indexed text. In the introduction the editors list 98 research questions that alone make this book well worth the money. The different perspectives of the contributors gave me direction. I plan to use this text to shape my vocabulary and lay the foundations of my glossary.

Cloud reader issues

Bought this book for a university course and decided to go for the e-book option on the Kindle Cloud Reader for my iPad. Big problem with the tables in the book which are too small to read and can't be adjusted in size using the usual iPad two finger trick.
Also, from the point of view of a book used for study, the annotating feature in Cloud Reader is a bit clunky, with the notes themselves quite difficult to access once they are written (compared to say Adobe Reader for iPad).
Only saving grace is the price which is considerably lower than the expensive print version.
